RRSO XIV (2016)

Welcome to the "REAL" Red River Shootout (RRSO).  As all serious chess players know, this is the annual team match between the most fanatical chess players in Oklahoma and Texas.

Since the first match on April 27, 2003, 706 tough chess games have been contested by a total of 307 players in seventeen matches and other RRSO events.  The stakes are high for both teams and Texas is poised to return to glory in RRSO XVIII.

Texas has the title as well as possession of the Frank Kim Berry RRSO Trophy.  Texas also has custody of the "original" Famous Traveling Trophy.  Finally, Texas leads the series 10 to 7 despite playing on the road sixteen out of eighteen times.

RRSO XVIII recruiting season begins on 15 January 2020.  The best way to get on the match section rosters is contact your Team Captain without delay and say:  "Hey Captain!  I am in!"

RRSO XVIII Rules may change slightly (PENDING REVIEW BY RRSO LEADERSHIP).

     Good luck Everyone!

Texas Seeks Revenge!

NOTE: The BRAZOS recruiting system used the last two years worked well. We filled 26 and 23, respectively, match section boards by asking interested players to register for a spot on the team in advance, and then the team captains paired them with a similar-rated registrant on the opposing team to guarantee a well balanced team match. We also recruited qualified substitutes for the Murray County Open, just in case.

HERE'S HOW THIS WORKS FOR RRSO XVIII: To play in the Match Section, you must register with your Team Captain no later than Sunday, 12 April 2020 at HIGH Noon. The Team Captains will review and approve the Team Rosters with the Chief TD. The official Team Match Pairings will be final on Wednesday, 15 April 2020. The rosters won't be announced until the morning of.

Your best chance for playing in the Match Section for RRSO XVIII is to ensure your US Chess membership is current through 30 April 2020 (or later) and REGISTER with the Chief TD and your Team Captain EARLY.

We will need substitutes. We draw those from the Murray County Open. Two days prior, we will notify all players who are in the Murray County Open. All walk-ins are welcome to play in the Murray County Open.

Bring clocks, sets and boards. None provided. Make sure your clock can facilitate the time control and you know how to set it, add penalty minutes, etc.

RRSO XVII TRIVIA: Everybody who committed to play got to play in the match section where every move, capture and game decision counts. Two walk-ins played in the Murray County Open because it was too late to find them a suitable opponent. So REGISTER EARLY . . . . like maybe on January 15th!!
